Visa to Egypt
All visitors to Egypt need to obtain a visa to enter the country unless they are from a visa-exempt country.
Nationals from UK , EU and USA travelling to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts ONLY, for a maximum of 15 DAYS, do not require a visa prior to travelling as a free entry permission stamp will be granted upon arrival. If they intend to travel outside of the above mentioned areas they MUST obtain a Visa.
In addition to UK and EU nationals, citizens of the following countries can obtain visa upon arrival at any of the Egyptian ports of entry: Australia, Canada, Croatia, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Macedonia, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Serbia, Ukraine and USA.
Nationals of the countries listed may be issued with an e-Visa upon application on the Egypt e-Visa Portal. The Egypt Online Visa Application Requirements are listed below:
- Passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity from the date of entry in Egypt
- An image of the passport’s biographical page
- Valid e-mail address
- Accommodation details
- Credit or debit card for visa fee payment
Upon approval, the Egyptian e-Visa will be electronically linked to the traveler’s passport and is also sent to the traveler’s email address. It is required to print the e-Visa to present at the port of entry in Egypt for border officials to confirm.
Travellers must provide the same passport used for applying for the Egyptian e-Visa online when arriving in an Egyptian airport.
Egypt COVID-19 Travel Restrictions
All passengers travelling to Egypt must be in possession of negative PCR test certificate for COVID-19 with Quick Response (QR) code, taken at a maximum of 72 hours before their flight departure time. Passengers travelling from Japan, China, Thailand, North America, South America, Canada, London Heathrow, Paris, and Frankfurt will be allowed to provide the test certificate performed at a maximum of 96 hours prior to flight departure, due to the long travel and transit period from these airports.
The Government of Egypt will also allow travelers to enter with proof of a WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccination. The vaccination certificate must comply with the rules of the issuing country and contain a QR code. A vaccination certificate has to show that the traveler had received the single-dose vaccine or the last dose of the two-shot vaccines at least 14 days before arrival.
Except for the Janssen / Johnson & Johnson vaccine, two doses are always required. The Egyptian authorities do not recognize vaccination of a recovered person with just one vaccination dose.
Travelers who arrive to any location in Egypt with a negative PCR test (including QR code) are not required to quarantine.
In case a traveler tests positive for coronavirus, they would have to self-quarantine at their hotel or residence for five days. On the sixth day, they would undergo a PCR test and will be allowed to end the quarantine in case they test negative and show no symptoms of illness.
If travelers are not vaccinated, they must present a negative coronavirus test from among those accredited by the Egyptian health ministry, which are PCR test or Antigen Rapid Test or ID Now test. However, the country will not accept ID NOW COVID-19 tests from travelers coming from South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Eswatini.
