The temples in Bangkok, elephants in Chiang Mai, and beaches in Phuket are the most well-known focuses that make Thailand a popular tourist destination in the world. However, others like Sukhothai and Kanchanaburi are worthy of visiting as well. As the essence of Thai civilization, Sukhothai plays a very important role, with the glory of the former Buddhist temples and palaces left here. As the site of building the famous "Death Railway" during World War II, Kanchanaburi witnessed a piece of history.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival / Bangkok

After your flight lands at Bangkok airport, you will be greeted by your guide and escorted to your hotel. The rest of the day is left free for you to relax and refresh.

Bangkok

Things to do for today: Royal Grand Palace , Wat Phra Kaew (Emerald Buddha Temple) , Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn/Wat Chaeng) , Wat Pho

Today, you will enjoy a full-day city tour accompanied by your private tour guide and driver. Firstly, visit a colorful flower and vegetable market to get an insight of real local life. Later, proceed to the Grand Palace, the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand and one of the must-sees that adjoins Wat Phra Kaew.

After lunch at a nearby restaurant, take a long-tail boat through the canals, locally known as Khlongs, to see Thai houses on stilts and typical rural life. You will also view the unique beauty of Wat Arun from the boat on the river. Afterward, visit Wat Po, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the city's oldest and biggest temple with the largest number of pagodas (95 in all). At 5:00 - 6:00 pm, sitting in silence and observing the monks chanting in the hall is a special experience. Finally, be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 3
Bangkok / Kanchanaburi

Things to do for today: Hellfire Pass Museum , Bridge over the River Kwai

After breakfast, drive to Kanchanaburi. You will firstly visit the Hellfire Pass Museum to learn about the history during World War II. After a delicious Thai lunch, visit Krasae Cave with its wooden railway bridge to enjoy the beautiful view over the Kwai River. Later, proceed to Kanchanaburi town where you can walk across the Bridge over the River Kwai. Finally, visit Don Rak War Cemetery to remember those who lost their lives during the construction of the "Death Railway" during World War II.

Day 4
Kanchanaburi / Ayutthaya

Things to do for today: Bang Pa-In Summer Palace , Wat Chai Wattanaram (Khmer Temple) , Wat Phra Sri Sanphet , Wat Mongkhon Bophit , Wat Maha That , Wat Ratchaburana

After breakfast, head to Ayutthaya, the former Capital of Thailand. Make a stop at Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, the summer palace for the Kings and Queens. Later, visit Wat Chai Wattanaram (Khmer Temple), one of the most impressive ancient Buddhist monasteries and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, the largest temple in Ayutthaya, followed by Wat Mongkhon Bophit and Wat Maha That. Your last stop is Wat Ratchabura nearby, where you will see a 600-year-old stupa inside that enshrines relics of the Buddha.

Day 5
Ayutthaya / Sukhothai

Things to do for today: Sukhothai Historical Park

After breakfast, depart for Sukhothai (about 5.5 hours' drive). Lunch is served at a local restaurant. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. Afterward, explore the marvelous Sukhothai Historical Park with 193 ruins comprising the ruins of Buddhist temples, royal palaces, the city gates, walls, moats, and the water dike control system of ancient Sukhothai.

Day 6
Sukhothai / Chiang Mai

Things to do for today: Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep

After breakfast, drive north to Chiang Mai. Upon arrival in the afternoon, climb up the magical staircase to the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a highly revered temple on the top of Mount Doi Suthep overlooking Chiang Mai. Afterward, head to your hotel in downtown Chiang Mai.

Day 7
Chiang Mai

Things to do for today: Baan Chang Elephant Park

Today, you will spend a whole day in Baan Chang Elephant Park, an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai (Join-in Group Tour with shuttle bus), where you may take care of the gentle elephants and get close to them.

Day 8
Chiang Mai

Things to do for today: Cooking class

Today, you will enjoy a half-day cooking experience with a local family. Drive about 45-minute to a traditional Lanna family, who keeps the traditions of building their homes using teak wood and maintaining the natural surroundings in a way now rarely seen in Chiang Mai for many generations. You will use fresh ingredients selected from the garden and traditional home recipes with authentic Northern Thai flavors that are different from standard dishes offered in commercial cooking classes. You will get to know a real Thai family, and enjoy a delicious home-cooked lunch with them.

After the meal, be transferred back to your hotel. Spend the rest of the time at leisure.

Chiang Mai / Phuket
